About

Sailor is a tall, grey and handsome gelding who has proven to do it all! It is only by coincidence that he was trained by my husband, Joe Sharp and bred by one of Joe’s most wonderful owners, Barry and Joni Butzow. Sailor was donated (sound) to New Vocations after the last of his three unsuccessful starts on the racetrack. He was adopted and later sold to his current owner who has competed Sailor up to 2’6” Hunters. After his owner completely switched gears, when he acquired a fancy and accomplished warmblood mare, Sailor has only switched disciplines to Eventing because of the particular trainer friend that is facilitating his sale!

Sailor has the movement and flashy jumping form that is so desirable in the Hunter ring and is also thriving in his new Eventing endeavors, not to mention that he’s an absolute pleasure to ride! With confirmed lead changes and a strut that has won him the dressage the first time he ever stepped foot in a “sand box”, Sailor is truly fit for any ring!

Sailor has done nothing but impress the dressage judges that he has encountered so far, including a win and a sub 30 dressage score in a large division at his first recognized event! He is well schooled, even with some 2nd level movements, and uncomplicated to ride on the flat. Sailor is a careful show jumper with plenty of scope for training (1.0m jumpers) and beyond! He has been super brave and honest on cross country, eating up his first XC course at a recognized event after only one XC school.

Sailor has proved to be easily managed at big venues like the Kentucky Horse Park and WEC, Ohio, and is also great to load and haul into shows even when a friend leaves him alone to stand on the trailer.

Sailor is best suited for a confident AA or junior looking to be competitive in Eventing, Hunters or Jumpers. He is talented, very trainable, rideable and oh so flashy. Sailor is easily managed at a boarding facility, having no stable vices and getting along well in a large group of horses.

Sailor would not be suitable for a timid rider as he currently looks to his pilot for guidance at this point in his training.
