With no possible option for a better barn name, “Monkey” has been a barn favorite during his 18 months in training with us. Monkey has been supported by his racing connections who have owned him since he was two. He was originally restarted in March of 2021 and came to OTS in December of that year. We started from the beginning of our program with ground work and foundational flat work and he has recently worked his way up to his second Training level event. Since his arrival Monkey has been considered a future packer of amateurs or juniors as he is safe, fun to ride, and an absolutely lovable character. He has become very rideable and proven to be forgiving of a rider’s mistakes. He is very good on the flat, having scored in the 20’s, and is a careful and brave horse over fences! Still green at the level, Monkey has laid out two great performances at Training and most recently placed Fourth at Champagne Run HT. He has started schooling second level dressage, and has even done some clean flying changes. He has jumped 3’6” courses and schooled prelim questions on Cross Country. Monkey also recently competed in the Real Rider Cup, a 2’6” jumper course held at New Vocations for charity, piloted by a junior rider who had ridden him only once on the flat and once over fences. He shows the potential to compete at the 2* level and would be suitable for a committed junior or adult amateur who has experience at the BN level or above and rides in a consistent program with a professional. Monkey would not be a good match for a timid rider.
