My Man Sam is the regal son of Trappe Shot, out of the Arch mare, Lauren Byrd. This 6-year-old gelding, who stands at 15.3, may just be America’s Most Wanted Thoroughbred! On the race track, his incredible stride carried him into the starting gate for the 2016 Kentucky Derby! Sam finished a respectable 11th place on that first Saturday in May of 2016, beaten marginally by the likes of Nyquist, Gun Runner, Mohaymen, and Brody’s Cause, though My Man Sam did beat the eventual Belmont Stakes winner, Creator! Now, in his second career, he asks for nothing more than attention and fun activities! 

 

After retiring from racing, Sam spent quite a lengthy time just being a horse.  Now settled into farm life, Sam shows a great appreciation for his new job, jumping all of the things! On his first ride in the OTS training program, he tackled legitimate water crossings, BIG ditches, and anything else that was thrown his way. This is a horse who loves to have a job. He has a quiet and sensible demeanor on the ground and is simple to ride. Sam is very intelligent and shows great trainability. He is happy to stand in front of the show ring….all day long! Sam carries himself elegantly and forward in three lovely gaits. He is an athletic and careful jumper who goes around in a great rhythm! Sam would be suitable for an experienced amateur who works with a trainer regularly. 

 

Sam has schooled up to 3′ at home and has already accumulated ribbons in Special Hunters and Champion in Baby Greens, among others! 

 

Sam could easily go from KY Derby to Hunter Derby, but may also go in many other directions. His uphill movement would be suitable for dressage, he is a super fun horse to ride on the trails and he LOVES jumping! His love of jumping is matched by his infinite scope! He has not yet been out with hounds but Sam would likely enjoy Fox Hunting, too. Most of all, Sam loves attention and has oodles of personality to offer his forever person! We are looking to find the perfect match for this amazing Unicorn!
